Google named world's top brand
Google has been named the world's most powerful brand by analysts Millward Brown, beating General Electric into second place. This is the second year running Google has topped the poll.

Millward Brown's BrandZ Top 100 list calculates Google's brand value at $86.1bn (£43bn), ahead of General Electric's $71.4bn and Microsoft's $70.9bn.

Other technology brands to make it into the top 10 include China Mobile (fifth), IBM (sixth) and Apple (seventh). Further down the list come Amazon (61st), Yahoo (62nd) and eBay (65th).

Another technology brand, BlackBerry, showed the biggest percentage leap from 2007 to 2008 - its brand value rocketed by 390 per cent. The company is now positioned as the world's 51st most powerful brand.

In total, 28 of the top 100 brands are in the technology and mobile sector. Combined, they showed a huge brand growth of $187.5bn.

Version 2.5.1 of WordPress is now available. It includes 70+ bug fixes, performance enhancements, and one very important security fix. WordPress recommend everyone updates immediately, particularly if your blog has open registration. The vulnerability is not public but it will be shortly.
